How to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers for local businesses
Google does not offer a switch that puts a local business in Mexico or Latin America into AI Overviews or AI Mode, and this guide does not cite an OpenAI page that sells that place in ChatGPT. What Google publishes is different: the page has to be eligible to appear in Search with a snippet, the Business Profile has to be up to date, and the structured data has to match the visible text. Meeting that does not guarantee that you are named.
Google’s AI features add no extra requirement
In “AI features and your website”, Google says that to be eligible as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Search with a snippet. There are no additional technical requirements: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features.
The same page says that meeting the requirements, the practices, and the policies does not mean Google will crawl, index, or serve the content. Indexing and serving are not guaranteed.
Among what remains worthwhile, Google names: allowing crawling in robots.txt, linking the page from your own site, keeping important content in text, making structured data match the visible text, and keeping Business Profile information up to date.
The profile and the listing, not an ad inside the answer
Google’s guide to generative AI features says that, where appropriate, those responses can include information about local businesses, and that using a Business Profile can help products and services be visible in AI responses and in other Search results: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide. “Can help” is not “will appear”.
The profile has to represent the real business. The guidelines ask for the name on the sign, the address where you serve customers, and the category that describes what you do: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177?hl=en. A suspended profile, or a name stuffed with keywords, is not the up-to-date profile that AI guide is talking about.
For a taquería, a clinic, or a hotel, this week’s work is the plain kind: real hours, a phone someone answers, the right category, and the same address on the site and on the profile. It is not a magic sentence to paste into the profile.
LocalBusiness on the site
Local business structured data tells Google the hours, phone, and address of a page. Google says the name and the address are required, and it recommends a telephone, URL, coordinates, and hours. Use the most specific type, for example Restaurant: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/local-business.
That data has to match what a person sees on the page. The general structured-data policies require it, and the AI-features page repeats it: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/sd-policies. JSON-LD with hours that differ from the sign is not an improvement.
Google also says that following the guidelines makes the page eligible for the local business rich result. It does not say that this markup places the business in a ChatGPT answer or in an AI Overview.
ChatGPT has no paid listing in the sources this page uses
This guide does not cite an official OpenAI page that offers a local business a paid place, or a guaranteed method, inside a ChatGPT answer. Inventing one would be a lie.
What you can do is ask the question a customer would ask: “taquería open near Colonia Americana”, “dentist in Mérida”, “hotel in central Oaxaca”. You note whether your name appears, whether another name appears, or whether the answer cannot be checked. AEO Local runs that check with ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok. If a query cannot be verified, it stays unverified. There is no visibility score.
The action plan on the AEO Local page is drafts you can publish: llms.txt, LocalBusiness data, and questions, from what you typed. The drafts are not a measurement and they do not force an assistant to name you.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an official way to appear in ChatGPT’s answers?
This page did not find an OpenAI help page that guarantees a local business will be named. What can be checked is to ask the question and record whether the name appears. AEO Local leaves unverified whatever it could not check.
Does LocalBusiness data put the business into an AI Overview?
No, according to Google’s documentation. It is for the local business rich result when you follow the guidelines. For AI features, Google says there are no extra technical requirements and that indexing or serving is not guaranteed.
What if the profile is suspended?
A suspended profile is not an up-to-date profile. First it is fixed and appealed on Google’s path. Rescate GBP prepares the file. Google decides whether to restore it.
Does the paid AEO Local plan promise mentions?
No. The scan says what was checked and what stayed unverified. The action plan is drafts for your site, not a measurement and not a ranking.
- Check mentions in AEO Local
- If the profile is suspended: Rescate GBP
- Ask for reviews without breaking the policies
